Cape Color World, 341 S. Kingshighway, is expanding it color services.
"We recently purchased the color portion of business from Cape Paint & Glass," said David Morris, a partner in Cape Color World with his mother, Vivian Morris. "We will now be dealers for Pittsburgh Paint, and Pratt and Lambert paints."
Color World also acquired a new employee said Morris. "John Mitchell, who was manager of the paint division at Cape Paint & Glass, joined our firm."
"We're getting out of the paint business," said Karen Baker, of Cape Paint & Glass, 501 Broadway. "We have sold our paint inventory to Color World."
Cape Paint & Glass, which has handled Pittsburgh Paint for more than 40 years, was originally founded as a glass store in Cape Girardeau.
"We'll maintain our glass business," said Baker.
The company services a wide area around Cape Girardeau with its commercial glass installations.
The new dealership will give Color World four primary brands of paint.
"We also have Bruning Paint and Insl-X Paint," said Morris.
Color World, which also handles wall paper, window blinds, and features a special computer color-matching service, was established by David Morris and his father, Paul Morris, in 1980.
Following a storm which heavily damaged the firm's building in Town Plaza in the mid 1980s, Color World moved into temporary quarters at 1914 Independence to await construction of a new 6,000 square foot building on S. Kingshighway.
The business, which sells retail and wholesale, moved into its new quarters in April of 1987.
"We're pleased with our new acquisition," said Morris. "We welcome the opportunity to continue providing good service to Pittsburgh and Pratt & Lambert customers."
Color World also acquired all past records of Cape Paint & Glass paint customers, so "we should be able to match any requests," said Morris.
