Cape Girardeau city manager Scott Meyer was involved in a car accident that killed the other driver Friday night in Howell County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a car driven by Weancie D. Briggs, 80, of Summersville, Mo., was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of U.S. 60 east of Willow Springs, Mo., when it collided head on with Meyer's car at 9:15 p.m.

Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene. Meyer, 49, was transported by ambulance to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo., and has been released.

Both Meyer and Briggs were wearing seat belts.

Meyer said he feels fortunate to have survived the accident. He said he was traveling with his wife to visit family at the time of the accident.
