Ruth Ann S. Hathaway, a Cape Girardeau chemist, will share 1994 Alumnus of the Year honors for Huntington College in Huntington, Ind.
The American Chemical Society honored Hathaway for her contributions in health and safety.
She completed a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Huntington College in 1979 and did graduate work in medicinal chemistry at Purdue University. She works as the safety officer and quality assurance officer for Environmental Analysis South Inc. in Cape Girardeau.
She is in her fifth year as chairman of the Southeast Missouri Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee as the American Red Cross Representative.
In 1992, she was appointed director of the Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair and is the first non-academic person to hold that position.
