The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce soon will receive more than $37,000 from the Missouri Division of Tourism. State Rep. Donna Lichtenegger, R-Cape Girardeau, announced the award Wednesday.

Lichtenegger said the money was awarded through the division's Cooperative Marketing Program and will be used for marketing and advertising projects to help promote the area as a tourist destination.

"Advertising will help increase the amount of visitors and business in our area," Lichtenegger said in a news release.

Lichtenegger said the Cooperative Marketing funds can be used for media advertising and a variety of other marketing and promotional activities. The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce will match each dollar of the state money with a dollar of local funds.
