The Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce has approved the Surface Transportation Committee's recommended support for the completion of the Lexington-Sprigg Street project.
Jim Rust, chairman of the board, announced the board's endorsement for the completion of the street project during the First Friday Coffee, held at Drury Lodge Friday.
Two councilmen had suggested putting off the final phase of the Lexington Street-North Sprigg Street extension projects until later, with the money to be spent other street projects, including street repairs. However, Mayor Al Spradling III and other council members say the city should tackle the last phase of the Lexington project and the North Sprigg Street extension in the 1996 fiscal year.
Rust also announced seven ex-officio members to the board for 1995. They are:
Dr. Kala Stroup, Southeast Missouri State University president; Dr. Neyland Clark, Cape Girardeau Public School superintendent; J. Ronald Fischer, Cape Girardeau city administrator; Dr. Melvin Kasten, Cape Girardeau councilman; Linda Job of the Cape Girardeau Junior Chamber of Commerce; Beverly Estes of Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Harry Rediger of Cape Girardeau Area Industrial Recruitment Association.
