A special patriotic concert by the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band Wednesday will be dedicated to members and veterans of the armed services.
The free concert begins at 8 p.m. in Capaha Park.
The concert begins with a selection entitled "Armed Forces Salute," which includes the song of each of the five branches of armed services. As each service branch song is played, members and veterans of that branch will be asked to stand to be recognized and their branch flag will be brought to the stage by representatives of the American Legion. At the end of the selection a full color guard will come forward for the Star Spangled Banner.
Special performer for the program will be Robyn Hosp, vocalist. She will sing several patriotic songs. The celebrity guest conductor will be Tom Giles, commander of the Louis K. Juden Post of the American Legion. Giles will conduct the "National Emblem March."
In keeping with the patriotic theme, other selections on the program include "Emblem of Unity March," "Chester Overture," "A Dixieland Concerto," "Star Spangled Spectacular," "American Folk Rhapsody No. 1," "America the Beautiful" with a vocal ensemble, and "Stars and Stripes Forever."
A short fireworks display will follow "Stars and Stripes Forever."
Those attending the concert are asked to bring a lawn chair.
