Cape Girardeau's Historic Preservation Committee will employ Southeast Missouri State University to conduct an architectural survey in old areas of the city.

The survey is scheduled to begin this month.

Dr. Steven Hoffman, coordinator of the historic preservation program at Southeast and president of Old Town Cape, will direct the survey using students of the university's historic preservation program.

The survey will include completing a form and photographing each building in the area from Water to Spanish streets and William to Themis streets.

A survey of this nature has not been conducted for 20 years.

The survey will take about one year to complete, and copies will be kept at city hall, Kent Library and the State of Missouri Historic Preservation Office.
