Candidates in Tuesday's municipal elections are speaking directly to voters through the Southeast Missourian's online election page.

The responses to the Southeast Missourian's candidate questionnaire are posted at http://semissourian.com/election. Candidates for offices ranging from school boards to town boards to fire district boards were asked to go online and answer three basic questions about the area they hope to serve as well as give basic information about themselves and their families.

In some of the larger district races, such as some school board contests, the Southeast Missourian added a question specifically about the issues involving that organization.

More than 90 letters to candidates were mailed more than two weeks ago and about half of those contacted have responded. The Southeast Missourian followed up the letters with telephone calls this week reminding candidates that the questionnaires were available and urging them to participate.

Candidates who have not responded may still do so and the results will be posted as soon as Southeast Missourian editors have had a chance to review the responses. Candidates who need help finding the questionnaire forms can contact Rudi Keller at 388-3642 or by e-mail at rkeller@semissourian.com.
