The deadline to file for school-board elections in Cape Girardeau County has passed, and now the race begins.

The deadline to file for school-board elections in Cape Girardeau County has passed, and now the race begins.

Two seats are available in the districts of Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Oak Ridge and Delta. Every district has contested seats.

Incumbents Jeff Glenn and Adrian Toole are running to retain their seats on the Cape Girardeau School Board.

Theirs are the only seats up for election in April. Paul Lett will challenge them for a position.

In the Jackson School District, incumbent Dan Stover has filed to hold his position.

Fellow board member Alaina Hinze is not seeking re-election.

Brad Noel and Brian Thompson have filed to fill those seats.

In Oak Ridge, board member Diane Mangels did not file for re-election, while James Seyer did.

Ron Tracy, Vernon Schoen and Jason Glueck also seek to fill the positions.

The Delta School District has the most contested board positions, with two openings and five candidates.

Greg Brawley is the only incumbent running. Board member Don Hester did not file for re-election.

Challenging Brawley for his position and the other open seat are Amy White, Priscilla Hornbuckle, Meredith Cox Scherer and Virgle Alan Ikerman.

Candidate information for the Nell Holcomb School District was unavailable.

School-board elections will be April 5.
