State Rep. Clint Tracy collected more money for his campaign for Cape Girardeau County presiding commissioner during the second quarter of the year than all five of his Republican rivals combined.

From April 1 to June 30, relying on contributions from major players in the Cape Girardeau business community, Tracy gathered $16,021 in cash contributions and a $2,000 in-kind contribution from DDI Media, a business name for Drury Displays Inc.

Companies or individuals associated with Rhodes 101 convenience stores contributed $1,500. Cord Dombrowski, developer of Dalhousie subdivision and golf club, chipped in $500, as did Jim Riley, owner of Red Letter Communications. State Sen. Jason Crowell contributed $1,500 as well.

As he entered the final month of the campaign, Tracy had $17,966 in his campaign bank account, or almost three times the amount available to his opponents.

The combined receipts of all other candidates totaled $13,801.47.

Two of Tracy's opponents in the Aug. 3 GOP primary, retired Cape Girardeau firefighter Charles Brawley and District 2 Associate Commissioner Jay Purcell, relied almost exclusively on their personal bank accounts to fund their campaign in the second quarter. Brawley put $4,501.16 into his campaign and reported $200 in contributions less than $100. Purcell contributed $130.10 to his campaign and lent the effort an additional $4,000.

Stephen Daume, who owns a farm near Daisy and is partners with his wife in Deer Ridge Animal Hospital, was the only candidate besides Tracy to report substantial contributions. He raised $4,870, including $1,000 from Ted Holzum of Standley Batch Systems Inc. Daume was also the second-best funded candidate heading into July with $4,482 in the bank.

Democratic contestants Pat Wissman and Brian Thomas did not form fundraising committees for the campaign.

In other Cape Girardeau County primary contests:

n 157th District Missouri House: Republican Party activist Donna Lichtenegger collected $21,430 in contributions, including $1,000 from former U.S. attorney general John Ashcroft, to fuel her primary contest against Jackson School Board member Gerald Adams.

Adams kept pace on the strength of $5,415 in contributions and a $15,000 loan to his campaign in the district which covers Jackson, northern Cape Girardeau County and most of Perry County outside Perryville.

Lichtenegger's contributor list has 171 names, including 15 contributions of $500 or more. Adams received two contributions of that size.

Adams had $18,521 on hand July 1, while Lichtenegger had $16,069 for the final month of the campaign.

n 158th District Missouri House: Cape Girardeau City Councilwoman Debra Tracy raised three times as much as Republican primary opponent Wayne Wallingford, but the numbers are small enough that neither candidate can claim a decisive advantage.

Tracy collected $5,450, including contributions from the Missouri Dental Association and the Missouri Bankers Association. She had $5,590 on hand as of July 1.

Wallingford raised $1,541 during the second quarter, which is also his total because he did not begin raising money until after April 1. Wallingford reported having $1,036 as of July 1.

Wallingford is making his second bid for the office. He came in second in a three-way primary in 2008, losing to Tracy's son, Clint Tracy.

Wallingford is a former U.S. Air Force officer and is "chief people person" for McDonald's of Southeast Missouri.

* Recorder of deeds: Incumbent Democrat Janet Robert posted a lead in fundraising on the strength of $2,570 in contributions and a $5,000 loan to her own campaign fund as she awaits the winner of the Republican primary.

The two GOP contenders, Scott R. Clark and Shelly Lane, both reported taking in less than $5,000 total. Clark funded his campaign effort almost entirely on a $4,000 personal loan and Lane collected $2,000 out of the $3,231 she raised from labor unions.

In her report, Robert said she had $5,313 in the bank July 1.

Clark reported receiving $300 in contributions, but did not name any contributors. Clark reported having $2,439 on hand. Lane reported that she had $928 in the bank.
