__What makes you the most qualified candidate for this position?:__
In my role at Saint Francis Medical Center I have learned leadership, management and strategic planning skills. All these tools will be valuable as a board member. Having spent the last three years on the board I am familiar with the current plans and challenges facing the district.
__How will you communicate your work to your constituents?:__
Communication is a key part of every relationship. A relationship is what every board member should have with their constituents. I currently and will continue to communicate with constituents in person. They are also able to see the work of the board by reviewing the board minutes and seeing how board members voted on each issue. I am always open to discussing other communication opportunities.
__What are the factors on which you will base your decisions as a school board member?:__
There are several factors on which I make decisions as a member of the board. The primary factors include our children, the teachers and the community. They are the reason we serve. In serving them we not only have an obligation in meeting today's needs, we also have to look toward the future. We do this by putting together a three to five year plan and remaining fiscally responsible so we can carry it out
__What do you see as the opportunities and challenges in the district?:__
The Oak Ridge school district has several opportunities on the horizon. We are currently upgrading our infrastructure this will allow us to support student devices. We are assessing our foundation which should help us find funds for the district. Our greatest challenge is school funding. Schools continue to receive less than promised by the state. I believe by introducing other sources of funding we can continue to provide the best education for our students.
