WHAT'S THE BIGGEST NEED YOU HOPE TO ADDRESS IF ELECTED?
Student achievement is my top priority. Everything we do should be from the classroom out. Our money, our time, our technology and our energy should be focused first in the classroom. We should strive to be the best in all we attempt, whether it is in the classroom, the field, or the court. To become the best, I believe we need to compare our district to state averages and to those districts that are similar in size and demographics. Comparing ACT scores, salaries, sports programs, just to name a few to see where we are, then create a plan to improve any area in need of improvement. Whatever gets measured gets improved.
Two areas that will enhance student achievement is technology and focused professional development. Our vision today will determine the success of our students in the future.
WHY ARE YOU THE BEST CANDIDATE?
I've been in the business of educating kids my whole career. I recently retired from public education after 33 years, I was a science teacher, coach and administrator for Perry County District #32.
I have a solid understanding of all areas of education. For the past 15 years, I have worked closely with Boards of Education creating policies and programs that were student centered. Working with students, staff, parents and our community is what every Board member strives to do. Communicating with elected officials, other school districts and state educational leaders about educational issues facing District #32 is on another level. My experiences at District #32, working with educational leaders throughout the state and with other districts in Missouri could benefit the challenges we face.
My passion for helping kids is still strong. I look forward to facing the challenges and rejoining the battle for our children's education.
