WHAT'S THE BIGGEST NEED YOU HOPE TO ADDRESS IF ELECTED?
The biggest need I hope to address is creating more effective communication channels. Throughout my campaign, I have learned that there is much misinformation around issues such as standards based grading and the core curriculum. These components will not cease to be a part of the education delivery model in Jackson. Therefore, I hope through more effective communication those who care about the school district will become better informed and able to engage in innovative strategies for change and implementation of these components. The old saying is true, knowledge is power. The more we know as a community, the more power we have as a community to create positive change in the Jackson R2 Schools. I believe the acquisition of knowledge begins with effective communication.
WHY ARE YOU THE BEST CANDIDATE?
First, as a parent of two school age children, I am involved with the Jackson School District on a daily basis. I believe this regular contact keeps me well informed about what is actually going on in the schools. Second, I am a good critical thinker. I am able to examine issues from multiple points of view. Third, I am able to work collaboratively with a group or committee to bring about change. Fourth, my communication skills will allow me to express my opinions in a straightforward yet tactful manner. Finally, and most importantly, I possess a genuine love for education that makes me a strong advocate for students and educators alike. I will strive to be a part of innovative ways to strengthen all components of the educational system.
