__Previous offices held or sought:__ Scott City R-1 School Board Member, 2012 to present

__What makes you the most qualified candidate for this position?:__

I am a graduate of Scott City High and I have a degree in finance from Southeast Missouri State University. I have 18 years of experience managing multi-year projects to achieve compliance with both state and federal legislation. For the past 23 years, I have worked with teenagers in camping ministry. Also, I was elected to the school board in 2012, where I served as the vice president and now I am the current president.

__What do you see as the opportunities and challenges in the district?:__

With the current challenges of aligning with the new Missouri Learning Standards, as well as upcoming changes in administration, it is important that the entire school district works together as a collaborative team. To support that team, the board must continue to fully explore every issue and opportunity presented so that we can make informed decisions. Doing the research and understanding all sides of an issue will help us to overcome challenges and seize opportunities.

__What are the factors on which you will base your decisions as a school board member?:__

In my first two years as a member of the school board, I felt that at times there was insufficient research and discussion by the board on important issues that impacted the school. Now as president of the board, I encourage every member to fully research each issue so that we can have well-rounded discussions at meetings. Understanding the policies and listening to the faculty, staff, parents and students can help us make informed decisions.
