The MU Extension Council of Cape Girardeau County and the Farm Bureau of Cape Girardeau County will host a forum for candidates for presiding commissioner at 6 p.m. July 27 at the University of Missouri Cape Girardeau County Extension office, 684 W. Jackson Trail in Jackson.
The event will begin with a meet-and-greet with the candidates, followed at 6:45 p.m. by questions for the candidates, the extension council and farm bureau said in a news release. Audience members will be asked to submit written questions, which will be reviewed by an impartial panel and then put before the candidates.
While the extension council normally does not get involved in politics, the forum was requested by the farm bureau, said Wayne Deneke, council chairman.
No endorsements will be made by either organization.
There are six Republicans and two Democrats seeking nomination on Aug. 3 to become Cape Girardeau County presiding commissioner to replace Gerald Jones, who is stepping aside after 16 years in the post.
