The Southeast Missouri Regional Cancer Center will host the third annual Cancer Update Thursday.

The all-day seminar, for nurses, will be held in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau and will feature topics related to the diagnosis, treatment and after-care of cancer patients.

Cancer Program Coordinator Nancy Mattingly said the program exits to enhance participants' ability to provide quality patient care to cancer patients. The educational program is intended for nurses in hospital, community and office settings; Hospice volunteers; and discharge planners.

Program topics and speakers include "Reconstructive Surgery," Dr. Greg Tobin, Surgery-Plastic and Reconstructive; "Living Wills and Durable Power of Attorney," Ray Otto, director of Pastoral Care at Southeast Missouri Hospital; "The Who, What and Where of the American Cancer Society," Viney Mosley, cancer society field representative; and "Skin Cancer," Dr. Hal Brown, dermatology.

Mattingly said the seminar carries 6.25 contact hours through the Missouri Nurses Association. The fee is $15 for nurses and $10 for nursing students and other interested individuals.
