The Cape Girardeau unit of the American Cancer Society recognized outstanding contributors and volunteers at the annual Ambassador of Hope reception Friday. The Cape Girardeau unit of the American Cancer Society recognized outstanding contributors and volunteers at the annual Ambassador of Hope reception Friday.

It was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lynn.

Honored were Ambassadors of Hope, donors of $1,000 or more, and patrons, donors of $500 or more.

"We want our contributors to understand what an important role they play in furthering our life-saving goals. The awards ceremony is just one way we let them know we appreciate their support," said Dan Lynn, American Cancer Society income development chair.

Nancy Mattingly received the highest volunteer award in the state, the society's distinguished service award. She serves as the state chair for patient services and is a member of the local education committee.

The Cape Girardeau unit received two of Missouri's detection and treatment awards and a communications award for volunteer efforts in these areas.

Ambassador of Hope recipients include Mr. and Mrs. James Allen, Boatmen's Bank, Cape Electrical Supply and Auto Tire and Parts, Capital Bank, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Cozean, Famous Barr, the First National Bank, Constance Harris, Health Service Corporation of America, Hecht's Store, Hirsch Foundation, KBSI-TV Fox 23, KFVS TV-12, Kohlfeld Distributing, Mr. and Mrs. Terry McDowell, Mercantile Bank, Mid America Hotels, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pind, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rader, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Rust, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rust, St. Francis Medical Center, Southeast Missouri Bank, Southeast Missouri Hospital and Super Valu.

Patron award recipients include CP McGinty Jewelers, Cybertel Cellular, Dr. and Mrs. Keith Deimund, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Detore, Holloway Floor Covering, Hutson Furniture, LDD Inc., Dr. and Mrs. Yong Kie Jim, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lynn, and Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Steele.

Additional awards were presented to Dr. David Feuerhahn for his leadership at past income development chairman, Dr. Don Dennington for his work in youth education of smokeless tobacco, and Angie Tygett for her six years of service as resource, information and guidance chairman.
