A tea party planned with an Old South theme will benefit the American Cancer Society.
The tea will be held May 25 at Beechwood, the home of Carole and Charles Cozean, from 3-5:30 p.m. Reservations are requested by Thursday.
Chairman Carolyn Thomasson said the event not only raises money for the Cancer Society, it is also gives women in the community a chance to visit with others they may not see on a regular basis. This is the second tea the local Cancer Society has sponsored.
"The setting for this tea party at the Cozean's home has an atmosphere of southern charm," said Thomasson.
For information, call the local Cancer Society office at 334-9197.
Marlena Pind, president of the Cape Girardeau unit of the American Cancer Society, said, "All the proceeds above cost will go to research and development, patient care and new joint ventures with the state of Missouri."
The Cancer Society is involved in the Smokefree Class of 2000, an effort to help children who will graduate in the year 2000 stay tobacco-free, and ASSIST, a similar program working toward a tobacco-free Missouri.
Pind said items donated for a silent auction planned during the tea all follow the southern theme.
Limited seating is available. Parking too is limited. Organizers ask that guests car pool and follow directions to the Cozean's home included in invitations.
In addition to Thomasson and Cozean, organizers include food chairmen, Beverly Noffel and Lauchette Low; invitation chairman, Becky Kies; silent auction, Anne Whitten; printing sponsor, Jamie Hastings; decoration chairman, D.D. Buerkle.
