The Cape Girardeau Police Department is investigating the Wednesday theft of an American Cancer Society donation jar.

According to police spokesman Darin Hickey, at about 11 a.m. officers arrived at R and P Oil gas station, 2551 Bloomfield Road, in response to the theft. The donation jar had been placed on a ledge under the gas station's payment window, and it was taken by a person believed to have been driving a dark red or maroon car. The jar contained an undetermined amount of money, Hickey said.

Hickey said that anyone with information about the theft should contact the police department at 335-6621 or the CrimeStoppers hotline at 339-6321.
