Campbell arrested for DWI, assaulting police

PHOENIX -- Country singer Glen Campbell struck a car while driving drunk and left the scene, then later kneed a police officer while demanding to see the police chief, authorities said Tuesday. He was freed early Tuesday on $2,000 bail on charges of extreme drunken driving and hit and run. He also was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer just as he was about to be released after posting bail for the other charges. Breath tests on Campbell showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20, according to court documents.

Martin Scorsese helps Statue of Liberty effort

NEW YORK -- Martin Scorsese offered his moviemaking talent Tuesday to a campaign to reopen the Statue of Liberty to the public. Scorsese will produce and narrate a television documentary on Lady Liberty to air in January, as part of an effort to raise money for new security measures. The federal government has spent millions on upgrades, but about $5 million in work must still be done before visitors can climb the 151-foot-high statue.

Reeve shows freedom from ventilator to public

NEW YORK -- Christopher Reeve appeared before a New York audience and proudly pointed out what he was missing: the ventilator he's had to use since the horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed. In February, Reeve became the third person in the United States to undergo a surgical procedure called diaphragm pacing, which involves threading tiny wires through small incisions in the diaphragm. The wires connect electrodes to a control box outside the body. The device allows him to breathe without a ventilator for hours at a time.

Bad brothel behavior sends singer to trial

DAYTON, Nev. -- An April 22 trial date has been set in Dayton Justice Court for former Motley Crue singer Vince Neil, who's accused of battery on a prostitute at a Nevada brothel. Neil is charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly grabbing Andrea Terry by the neck and throwing her against a wall at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch in Mound House on July 10. Neil stopped by the brothel after a concert in Reno with Poison and Skid Row.
