ULLIN, Ill. -- A Cairo, Ill., murder suspect turned himself in to Illinois State Police on Saturday.
Chauncy M. Hughes, 30, faces a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of his wife, Heather M. Davis, 22, Illinois State Police reported.
Cairo police officers found Davis shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday at a home at 733 35th St. in Cairo. She was not breathing and had sustained a gunshot wound, Illinois State Police reported.
Davis was pronounced dead at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
The Cairo Police Department turned the case over to the Illinois State Police, who reported Saturday that Hughes had turned himself in and was in custody at the Tri-County Justice and Detention Center in Ullin on an Alexander County charge of first-degree murder.
Details of the case were not immediately available, and online court records Monday did not list any charges against Hughes.
According to her obituary, Davis was the owner and manager of Mack's Restaurant in Cairo.
Visitation for Davis will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill., and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
