A man accused of killing a Cairo, Illinois, woman earlier this year goes on trial next month.
Online court records show Christopher H. Simpkins, also of Cairo, is scheduled for a jury trial beginning July 14.
Cairo police conducted a check on Gloria F. Wiggins, 25, about 11:15 p.m. Feb. 26 at a residence on Elmwood Street and found Wiggins dead in the home.
Simpkins faces first-degree murder charges in Wiggins' death, which in Illinois carries a punishment of death, life without possibility of parole or 20 to 60 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.
