CAIRO, Ill. -- A Cairo man will serve three years in prison for his role in a fatal shooting outside a nightclub in 2010.
Melvin Hadley, 28, was sentenced Thursday in an Alexander County courtroom by Judge Mark Clarke. Hadley faced up to five years in prison for shooting Jeserick Pilgram of Mounds, Ill., outside Mary J's Lounge on July 1, 2010. He will also receive credit for time served and a one-year minimum supervised parole in addition to the three-year sentence, according to the Alexander County, Ill., circuit clerk's office.
He was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, but those charges were reduced with his July 8 plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Illinois law allows numerous counts of murder charges for a single homicide in certain cases.
