BY THE LIGHT OF A CANDLE: HOLIDAY SERVICE TIMES

The following is a partial listing of the churches offering special worship services during the Christmas holiday.

Christmas Eve

* Hanover Lutheran Church will have a service at 11 a.m., with Holy Communion.

A children's program will be at 6:30 p.m. and a candlelight service at 11 p.m.

* Lynwood Baptist Church will hold its first Christmas Eve service from 5 to 6 p.m.

* First Assembly of God Church will hold a service from 7 to 8 p.m.

* First Christian Church will hold a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m.

* Hobbs United Methodist Chapel will have two candlelight services at 5:30 and at 11 p.m. Both will offer Holy Communion.

* St. Mary Cathedral will celebrate Mass at 5:15 p.m. and again at midnight.

* Old St. Vincent's Church will hold a candlelight vigil at 5:15 p.m.

* Grace United Methodist Church will have a cantata at 6:30 p.m.

* All three services at New McKendree United Methodist Church will be candlelight services. Worship times are 5, 8 and 10 p.m.

* Maple United Methodist Church will hold a walk-in communion from noon to 5:30 and a candlelight service at 6.

* La Croix United Methodist Church will have three candlelight services at 5, 6:30 and 11 p.m. A children's choir will perform at 6:30 and the Lord's Supper will be at 11.

* Centenary United Methodist will have three services: Communion in the Kimbel Chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; a candlelight worship at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Clayton Smith preaching and at 11, with the Rev. Brent Mustoe preaching.

* First Presbyterian Church in Jackson will hold two candlelight services. The 7 p.m. service will have a children's emphasis and the 11 o'clock service will offer Holy Communion.

* Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will have two worship services. A family-oriented service is set for 6 p.m. A traditional service of carols and candlelight will be at 11 o'clock, with special music by the handbell choir.

* First Presbyterian Church will have candlelight service at 7 p.m.

* Westminster Presbyterian will have a candlelight service at 7:30 p.m.

* Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson will have a candlelight communion service at 10:30 p.m.

* Cape Bible Chapel will have a candlelight service from 6 to 7 p.m.

* Christ Episcopal Church will begin its service at 9 p.m., with a half hour of carols. Holy Eucharist also will be celebrated.

* First General Baptist Church will hold a candlelight communion service at 6 p.m.

* Red Star Baptist will begin its service at 5 p.m.

* Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson will hold a candlelight service at 5 p.m.

* Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson will celebrate Mass at 4 and 10 p.m.

* St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City will have Christmas carols at 11:30 p.m. with Mass at midnight.

* St. Vincent's de Paul Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. and at midnight.

* Mount Auburn Christian Church will hold service at 6 p.m.

* St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson will have services at 4:30, 7 and 9 p.m.

* Bethany Baptist Church will hold a candlelight service at 5:30 p.m., with Communion.

* Christ Lutheran Church at Gordonville will hold a service at 7 p.m.

* Evangelical United Church of Christ will hold a candlelight service at 7 p.m., which includes communion.

* Christ Presbyterian will have a service of lights at 6 p.m. at Education Center at St. Francis Medical Center.

* Trinity Lutheran Church will have candlelight services at 6 and 10:30 p.m. Both will have Holy Communion.

* Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City will have service at 7:30 p.m.

* Zion United Methodist Church in Old Appleton will have a service at 6:30 p.m.

* Faith Evangelical Free Church will have a candlellight service from 6-7 p.m.

Christmas Day

* Hanover Lutheran Church will hold a festival service at 10 a.m. with Holy Communion.

* St. Mary Cathedral will celebrate Mass Christmas morning at 7, 8:30, 10 and 11:30.

* Old St. Vincent's Church will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m.

* Zion United Methodist Church at Gordonville will have a program at 7 p.m., with performances by children and adults.

* New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson will hold worship at 5 p.m.

* First Presbyterian Church will hold a worship service at 10:45 a.m.

* Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 8 and 10 a.m.

* St. Joseph Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 10 a.m.

* St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 7:30, 9 and 11:30 a.m.

* St. Paul Lutheran Church will have service at 9 a.m.
