Southeast Missouri State University supporter B.W. Harrison will receive the school's Vandiver Show Me State Award on Dec. 12.
The Cape Girardeau man will accept the award during the university's winter commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. in the Show Me Center.
The Board of Regents voted last week to present the award to Harrison.
Harrison will be the third recipient of the award. It is named for Willard Duncan Vandiver, the fifth president of Southeast who coined the "show me" phrase that has become the state's nickname.
Don Dickerson, board president, said Harrison has demonstrated his support, commitment and service to the university and region.
Harrison gave $800,000 worth of stock to the Southeast Missouri University Foundation last spring. The stock was sold and the money used to buy St. Vincent's College and Seminary for development of a visual and performing arts campus.
Dr. Dale Nitzschke, Southeast's president, said Harrison's vision will enhance the quality of life for the region.
