Tonya Buttry has been named academic director of the Southeast Missouri Hospital School of Nursing.
Last fall, the hospital's diploma School of Nursing received initial approval from the State Board of Nursing to transition in July to a College of Nursing, offering an associate degree of nursing program.
Southeast began offering an LPN to RN diploma program in 1991. The last diploma class will graduate in July, and ADN students will be admitted in July. Enrollment in the intensive 48-week ADN program will be limited to 35 students.
Buttry's appointment, said School of Nursing Director Sandy Buchheit, will further strengthen the academic component of the program, particularly in the areas of curriculum design and administration.
A staff member at Southeast since 1983, Buttry also was a nursing instructor in the associate degree of nursing program at Southeast Missouri State University for several years.
She holds a B.S. in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University, and her master's degree in nursing from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
