POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Butler County man was sentenced to five years in federal prison Monday for illegally possessing a firearm.

Timothy G. Ossana, 45, was sentenced to 60 months on one felony count of being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm by U.S. District Judge Stephen Limbaugh Jr., according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Upon his release from prison, Assistant U.S. Attorney Keith Sorrell said, Ossana will be placed on a two-year period of supervised release.

Ossana previously had been convicted of aggravated assault in 1999, possession of a narcotic drug in 2004 and being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm in 2010.
