Lt. Bob Thompson of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said Woodfin was using the portable air compressor to clean the water lines to his swimming pool before winterizing the water pipes to the pool.

Thompson said the air tank on the compressor burst and struck Woodfin on the right leg. Woodfin was treated at the scene for possible fractures of the lower right leg by paramedics from the Cape County Private Ambulance Service and the fire department and transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital.

A spokesperson said Woodfin was still undergoing surgery late Saturday afternoon. He was expected to remain hospitalized.
