WAPPAPELLO LAKE, Mo. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake has issued a burn ban until further notice due to dry conditions in the region to protect visitors and resources, the Daily Statesman reported. The ban prohibits the use of charcoal or wood fires. Visitors to public recreation areas and campgrounds on Wappapello Lake may use attended gas grills or stove tops. A small spark can escape into grass or nearby brush and rapidly spread due to dry, breezy weather conditions. Vegetation is dry enough that it will burn even if green. Grass fires have already been fought on Wappapello Lake property. For questions regarding the ban or for more information, contact the Wappapello Lake Project Office at 573-222-8562.
