CHARLESTON, Mo. -- A no-burn order has been issued for Mississippi County, Mo., and portions of southern Scott County, Mo., in effect until further notice, according to a news release.
Open burning, as well as the use of fireworks, is prohibited under the order.
The order was issued by the Mississippi (Scott) County Rural Fire District.
The fire district is the latest of many entities to post burn bans in advance of the July 4 holiday. Burning is currently banned in Cape Girardeau County, Jackson and Cape Girardeau. The use of fireworks is discouraged, but not banned, expect in Cape Girardeau County parks. The use of missile-style fireworks with rockets mounted on sticks is illegal in both Cape Girardeau and Jackson.
