Burglary suspect says he intends to plead guilty

A 19-year-old Cape Girardeau man arrested on burglary charges last week told a judge Monday he plans to plead guilty.

Floyd M. Young waived his right to a lawyer and then to a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Gary Kamp on Monday, saying he intends to represent himself and plead guilty in a case in which police said they found his fingerprints at the crime scene.

Kamp told Young, via a videoconference from the Cape Girardeau County Jail, that he likely would appear in circuit court next week to offer the plea, if that's what he chooses to do. Police said they still are investigating to see if Young is involved in a string of burglaries that have taken place in recent weeks.

Police responded to a home in the 100 block of South Hanover Street after the homeowner -- a landlord renting to college students -- found a rear door window smashed. An iPod was reported missing, and Young, according to police, was interviewed after his fingerprints were lifted from a doorknob. Young allegedly admitted to police that he and a juvenile had broken into the home.
