Located at the corner of Kingshighway and Broadway, a new Burger King is scheduled to be complete in November, according to Dan Drury, president of Midamerica Hotels Corp., which owns 35 of the restaurants.

Drury said issues with plumbing and other parts of the building caused the company to build a newer Burger King. While construction continues, employees will work at nearby Burger Kings.

Ken Eftink, director of development services for the city of Cape Girardeau, said the construction is an example of a project the city would like to see happen more often on Broadway. Other renovations underway on Broadway include a new parking lot and restrooms at Main Street, updated storefronts at several businesses, Southeast Missouri Hospital landscaping and redevelopment by Southeast Missouri State University.

"Sure, there are a few properties that need some tender loving care, but overall, Broadway is looking better every day with more good projects on the horizon," Eftink said.
