BURFORDVILLE -- The U.S. Postal Service is looking for a new post office site here."Our current location is in the flood plain," said Burfordville postmaster Susan Estes. "We're looking for a location to house a new facility outside the flood plain."The new site should be about 75 feet by 125 feet."It has to be large enough for a 26,225 square foot facility," said Estes. "The preferred area of consideration should be within the Burfordville city limits."The current post office, located at 353 Highway HH, was constructed in the 1930s, and is no longer adequate to serve the postal needs in the Burfordville community.
Postal officials recently met with Burfordville community leaders, to explore the possibilities for the new post office."We want input from the community," said Estes. "Remarks may be addressed to Postmaster, 353 Highway HH, Burfordville, Mo., 63739-9998." Postal authorities are looking for a property location within 30 to 60 days, and a new post office within eight to 10 months.
The small post office provides the same services as post offices in larger areas like Jackson and Cape Girardeau.
