Bruce C. Janssen is the new Missouri Veterans Home administrator here, but he is not new to Cape Girardeau. He started his new job Monday.
Janssen has bachelor degrees in biology and education from Southeast Missouri State University and taught a year at Cape Central Junior High School.
A native of St. Louis, Janssen is the fifth administrator at the veterans home since it opened in 1990. He succeeds Sam McVay, who has become executive director of the Missouri Veterans Commission, where he will head Missouri's seven Veterans Homes, the Veterans Service Office program and the new Missouri Veterans Cemeteries program.
Janssen was involved in health care administration in Southern California before returning to Missouri in 1997 as executive director of a 316-bed Good Samaritan Home in St. Louis.
Prior to the veterans home job, Janssen was a senior partner of Long Term Care Group in St. Louis, a company specializing in long-term care financial planning.
