BUCKINGHAM, Va. -- Two Virginia brothers claimed an $87.5 million Mega Millions lottery prize Thursday and said the new wealth won't prompt any major changes in their lifestyles.
Bernard and Tucker Adcock received a ceremonial check at Duck's Corner Food & Gas, where they bought one of the four winning tickets in the Aug. 31 drawing.
"Right now nothing is going to change," younger brother Bernard Adcock of Appomattox said at a news conference. "We were both making it OK before we hit the lottery."
Bernard Adcock is a retired lieutenant with the Virginia Department of Corrections. His brother, who lives in Buckingham County, works three jobs but has decided to quit one.
An attorney for the men said both are in their 50s.
Two other winners previously claimed their shares of the $330 million jackpot -- the second largest in the game's history -- while a fourth has yet to come forward. Retirees John and Sandra Belawsky of Cape May County, N.J., claimed their share last week, joining accountant Elwood "Bunky" Bartlett of Dundalk, Md.
The other winning ticket was sold in Texas.
The odds that any ticket would match all five numbers -- 8, 18, 22, 40 and 44 and Mega Ball number 11 -- drawn on Aug. 31 were one in 176 million.
Tucker Adcock selected those numbers because they had been on a previous ticket of his -- one that had been generated using the lottery's computerized "Easy Pick" function. Even though the numbers didn't win the first time, Tucker Adcock decided to try them again.
Konstantinos "Gus" Trekas, owner of Duck's, received a check for $50,000 from the Virginia Lottery for selling a winning ticket.
