ST. LOUIS -- The man fatally shot near a light rail station in St. Louis was a government media relations official struck by stray gunfire from a dispute he had nothing to do with.
Police say 48-year-old Craig LeFebvre was killed Tuesday night in a shooting at the MetroLink station on South Grand Boulevard, near St. Louis University. LeFebvre was the spokesman for the St. Louis County Health Department.
Police say two men were involved in an argument when one of them began shooting, striking the other man in the face.
LeFebvre, who was not involved in the argument, was struck in the chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The other victim is in stable condition.
The shooter remains at large.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A panel of former judges is considering the Missouri death penalty case of Marcellus Williams and whether Gov. Mike Parson should spare his life.
Williams was convicted of killing former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter Lisha Gayle during a 1998 burglary. He was hours away from execution when then-Gov. Eric Greitens ordered an investigation last year.
Greitens' action followed the release of new DNA testing previously unavailable. DNA found on the weapon matched another unknown person, not Williams.
ST. LOUIS -- Court records show the Republican candidate for Missouri auditor had a Kansas address in 2013, raising eligibility questions.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Saundra McDowell was living in Mission, Kansas, when she was sued by a furniture company for failing to pay about $700, plus interest after entering into a contract in 2012.
The dates are important because the state's Constitution says an auditor must have been a resident for 10 years at the time of election.
