Capaha Car Club swap meet to be held today
The Capaha Car Club will hold a swap meet from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today in the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. There will also be a handful of antique cars in different stages of restoration for sale.
Jerry Ford Orchestra to play benefit concert
The Jerry Ford Orchestra will perform a benefit concert March 16 to fund improvements to the Central Junior High School auditorium. The auditorium needs new drapes and sound equipment, according to Tammy Samuel, executive director of the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation. The junior high jazz band will perform at 2:45 p.m., and the orchestra will run from 3 to 5 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the door or by sending a check to CGPS Foundation, 301 N. Clark Ave., Cape Girardeau. Students and children are admitted for free. According to Samuel, the concert marks Ford's 50th year of performing throughout the Midwest. In addition to Ford's orchestra, the concert will include performances by the Water Street Band, Papa Aborigine and St. Louis Sounds Unlimited. Call 334-2923 for more information.
'Tallgrass' discussion set for Wednesday
A discussion of the book "Tallgrass" led by Dr. Mike Cowan has been rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Central High School's library. Cowan, the principal of Central and a former Advanced Placement English teacher, is one of the most popular discussion leaders for the citywide "United We Read" program, according to librarian Julia Jorgensen. David Fiedler's discussion of his book, "The Enemy Among Us: POWs in Missouri During World War II," has been postponed to a date not yet determined in March.
