Highway 25 one lane for patching of roadway

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Highway 25 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane while MoDOT crews patch the roadway. The repairs will be made from Highway 77 to Route P. Weather permitting, traffic will be reduced to one lane Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The work zone will be marked with signs. Six arrested in Scott County on drug charges

Six Scott County residents were arrested on drug charges over the weekend. Among them was Steven Kolwyck, 46, of Oran, charged with first-degree trafficking, attempting to manufacture a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The charges come after a two-month investigation by Scott County detectives. Bond was set at $100,000. A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were also arrested on the same search warrant for possession of marijuana and other charges. During the same weekend, deputies arrested Austin Corbin, 21, of Sikeston, Mo., for possession of marijuana, and two Oran residents, Eric and Nikki Russel, for marijuana possession and endangering the welfare of a child.

Program on landmark designation Wednesday

In honor of National Historic Preservation Month, the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission will hold a reception Wednesday in the city council chambers at 401 Independence St. The event will begin with hors d'oeuvres at 6 p.m. and continue with keynote speaker Jo Ann Radetic, a certified local government coordinator with the Missouri State Historical Preservation Office. Radetic will speak about "the local landmark district process and why your neighborhood should consider landmark designation." The evening will conclude with the normally scheduled Historic Preservation Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m.

Attempted child abduction in Sikeston

At 6:30 p.m. Monday a man attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl at the corner of Courtney Drive and Pine Street in Sikeston, Mo. The Sikeston Dept. of Public Safety reports the man, who is still at large, drove a white, silver or gray van with an older-style window model. The white male is described as about 5'8" tall with a stocky build and wearing a white T-shirt with dirt or food stains on it. The man has either stitches or a tattoo on his right wrist and has a full black beard and mustache, and black hair with some graying.
