Low lecture to focus on populist Wallace
The annual Joseph H. Low Lecture at Southeast Missouri State University on Wednesday will focus on conservative populist George Wallace. Dr. Lloyd Rohler, a communication studies professor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, will deliver the lecture at 6:30 p.m. in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium. Rohler is the author of "George Wallace: Conservative Populist," "Ralph Waldo Emerson: Preacher and Lecturer" and various articles on political communication. The lecture is funded by a donation from Mildred Low in honor of her late son, Dr. Joe Low, who was a speech professor at Southeast from 1962 to 1998. Low retired in 1998 and moved to Arizona. He died Jan. 10 in Tucson, Ariz.
Former TV reporter waives arraignment
A former KFVS12 television reporter waived her arraignment Thursday in Scott County circuit court and will next appear June 14 for a preliminary hearing before Mississippi Associate Circuit Judge T. Lynn Brown. Tiffany N. Sisson, 34, of Oran, Mo., has been charged with stealing more than $20,000 between March 1 and Nov. 20 while she was the guardian/conservator of an estate. Associate Circuit Judge Scott Horman approved the change of judge last month. Sisson was arrested Feb. 26 and posted a $20,000 bond. If convicted of the felony stealing charge, Sisson could spend up to seven years in prison.
