Park assistant receives state recognition
Marcia Stone, an administrative assistant for the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, was awarded the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association's Support Staff Award at its annual state conference in Springfield. Stone has worked for the city for more than 30 years and provides administrative support to 10 full-time staff members, four advisory boards and committees and the Parks Development Foundation.
Scott City student gets citizenship award
The Missouri State Board of Education honored Scott City High School student Daniel Schuenemeyer and 14 other students from public high schools around the state Friday with "Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship" awards. Michael Wolff, chief justice of the Missouri Supreme Court, was the featured speaker at the awards ceremony held at the Governor's Mansion in Jefferson City. Schuenemeyer didn't attend the ceremony because of a scheduling conflict. He participated in district band competition at Cape Girardeau on Friday. The nomination application singled out Schuenemeyer for his involvement in student council, his community service with the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association Peaceful Valley Boys Camp, his role as president of the Scott City chapter of Future Business Leaders of America and other leadership roles ranging from captain of the speech and debate team to senior class president.
Big Sky makes Cape operation official
Big Sky Airlines will operate out of Cape Girardeau as a Delta Connection carrier, the airline officially announced Friday. Delta offers connections to more than 400 daily departures to 122 worldwide destinations, including trans-Atlantic service to London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Rome from its second-largest hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Big Sky Transportation Co. is a subsidiary of MAIR Holdings.
