Two bodies found in Anna residence

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Authorities are investigating the discovery of two bodies early Friday in a Jonesboro residence, said an Anna police representative. A news release issued by the Union County Sheriff's Department Friday evening called the discovery a double homicide and said a suspect was in custody although no arrests have been made. According to the release, police discovered the bodies at about 7 a.m. after a concerned friend contacted police. Jonesboro and Anna police, the Illinois State Police and the Union County Sheriff's Department are investigating the incident. Southeast Public Radio will broadcast a retrospective look at 2006 on its "Going Public" show Dec. 31. The program will present feature stories about Cape Girardeau's new mass transit system, the reopening of the Thebes, Ill., historic courthouse, mule jumping competition in Altenburg, Mo., and other items of interest from 2006. Tom Harte will host the program, which will be broadcast at 3 p.m. on National Public radio affiliates KRCU, 90.9 FM, and KSEF, 88.9 FM.

Sikeston woman stabbed four times Thursday

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston woman who received minor injuries after being stabbed four times Thursday evening has been treated and released from Missouri Delta Medical Center, said a news release issued by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. According to the release, Jessica George sustained wounds to the head, arm, chest and shoulder during an assault that took place at 309 Jaycee. The time of the assault was not provided in the release. Police have arrested Madonna Adamson, of 103 Dorothy St., in relation to the stabbing and recovered a knife believed to have been used in the assault. Adamson is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action, the release said. She was under $75,000 bond and was at DPS awaiting transfer to the Scott County Sheriff's Department, the release said.
