Brewer, Sutterer win votes for Perry County commissioner

Tim Brewer won the Republican vote for District 1 Perry County commissioner in the primary, defeating John Edwards 1,030 to 621. Neither candidate had run for public office before, but both boasted experience in owning and managing businesses.

Brewer said his experience in running a business gave him leadership skills he intends to use in serving Perry County taxpayers.

As a Perry County native, Brewer has said he feels as though he has more of a vested interest in the community than outside politicians, and has said he intends to tackle some of the budget problems facing both county law enforcement and county road maintenance. Brewer will face Democratic candidate Patrick Heaps in the November election.

James L. Sutterer, who also has never held a political office, defeated incumbent Edwin W. Stueve Jr. for District 2 commissioner. Sutterer plans to focus on dealing with the effect that skyrocketing fuel prices have had on the county.

Incumbent Sheriff Gary Schaaf defeated challenger Joe Martin 2,773 to 1,137. Schaaf will face Democratic candidate Ted Christisen in the November election.

Republican Charles H. Triller won the three-person race for county assessor, defeating runner-up Robyn G. Richardet by 891 votes. Cheryl Stueve received 919 votes.

A code enforcement officer and computer technician for the city of Perryville, Triller said he looks forward to working toward developing strategies to improve the current system in place for maintaining fair property assessments for the residents of Perry County.
