The Breakfast Optimist Club has announced winners of its annual essay and oratorical contests.
In the essay contest, first place winner is Jason Leggett. Second place winner is Esta Lewis and third place winner is Jonathan L. Raymond.
The 1993 essays were written on the subject, "Freedom: Our Responsibility to Preserve."
The winning essay will next be judged on a district level. Top prizes for the International competition are a $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 scholarship.
The scholarship program is open to any high school sophomore, junior or senior.
In the oratorical contest, first place winner is Holly Brantley and second place winner is Amanda Wyatt. All contestants were seventh-grade students at L.J. Schultz Middle School.
Brantley will advance to zone competition. Winners there advance to district level and compete for a $1500 prize.
