Breakfast at St. Andrew to fund missions work

Enjoy cinnamon rolls and juice or coffee from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall Nov. 23 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Rolls are $2 each and also sold in a half-dozen package.

The event is sponsored by the SEMO Lutheran Women's Missionary League Potter's Clay. Proceeds will go toward mission projects.

Pastor of New Salem recognized for service

The congregation of New Salem Baptist Church recently honored its pastor with a reception on his 19th anniversary. He has been pastor there since 1983.

Since coming to serve the church, the congregation has seen significant growth and construction of a new church facility. The church also sponsors the New Salem Baptist Academy, a Christian school.

The Rev. Randy Poole and his wife, Debbie, have seven children.

Holiday bazaar in works at Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran Church will sponsor its annual Ladies Junior Aid holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7 in the fellowship room at the church.

A chicken-and-dumpling luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person and carryouts are available.

The bazaar will have crafts, baked goods, jewelry and glassware and some antiques available for sale. There also is a shopping area for children only.

Episcopal Church plans meeting of state diocese

Members of the Episcopal Church Diocese of Missouri will gather for meetings in Cape Girardeau next weekend.

The meetings begin Friday at 10:30 a.m. for registration. The first business session is at 1:30 p.m. Most of the business session will be at Drury Lodge.

About 120 delegates are expected to arrive for the meeting, which focuses on evangelism.

Bishop George Wayne Smith will address the delegates during a Eucharist Friday night at Old St. Vincent's Church. Music will be by Voce Festiva, a women's ensemble.

Part of the business sessions will include election for diocesan-wide offices. No local candidates are being considered.

The bishop visited Cape Girardeau in early October for the first of a series of town hall meetings to talk about a vision for the church's future and an evangelism effort. Christ Episcopal Church was host for that meeting and will act as host for this week's meetings as well.

Community Thanksgiving service planned

The annual community Thanksgiving service will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 at Bethel Assembly of God Church.

Seven clergy are participating, including Stan Hargis, pastor of the host church, the Revs. James Guerrero, Sam Ramdial, John Ferguson, Clayton Smith, Paul Kabo and Jay White.

The program is a litany and hymns that center around giving thanks and a portion of the Lord's Prayer.

People are invited to attend the ecumenical service, which is sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Ministerial Alliance.
