The Cape Girardeau Evening Lions Club, in cooperation with Quentin C. DeCota and Priory of St. Louis, The Crusader, donated over three hundred new and used books and two book shelves to the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Girardeau earlier this month.

The collection comprises several ethnic, classic and upper-level young adult books including the entire Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Boys and Girls Club members are able to borrow the books free-of-charge from the Power Hour Reading Center located at 232 Broadway.

As an affiliate of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Outreach Program, the Boys and Girls Club is furnished with books and a part-time librarian who assists students in the Power Hour tutoring program. Participating Boys and Girls Club members are required to read at least 15 minutes daily.

The Boys and Girls Club has played a role in the Cape Girardeau community for three years providing daily programs and services to approximately 400 young people. The club is open from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for programming. For more information you may call the office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday at 335-7141.
