Three men received Shawnee District Awards of Merit Friday night at the Boy Scouts of America district's annual volunteer recognition dinner. Recipients were Jerry Siemers, Cub Master Pack 18 chartered to the PTO of Jefferson School; Kenny Beussink, unit commissioner and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 5 chartered to VFW Post 3838; and Rick Knight, unit commissioner, District Camping Committee member and campmaster for the annual Klondike Derby for the past three years...

Three men received Shawnee District Awards of Merit Friday night at the Boy Scouts of America district's annual volunteer recognition dinner.

Recipients were Jerry Siemers, Cub Master Pack 18 chartered to the PTO of Jefferson School; Kenny Beussink, unit commissioner and assistant scoutmaster of Troop 5 chartered to VFW Post 3838; and Rick Knight, unit commissioner, District Camping Committee member and campmaster for the annual Klondike Derby for the past three years.

All three men earned the rank of Eagle as youths.

The presentation was made by representatives from the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, at the Family Life Center at Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

The Shawnee District serves 2,083 youths with 61 units in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Perry and parts of Scott and Stoddard counties.

The District Award of Merit is the highest award given to a volunteer Scouter by the council at the district level. In order to be considered for the award, each recipient also has served youth in the

(community outside of Scouting.)
