Jackson Boy Scout Troop 311 received a donation of $2,975 from its sponsoring organization, the Optimist Club of Jackson, at its Court of Honor held at the Jackson Middle School March 5.
The Optimist Club has sponsored the troop for more than 45 years.
Of the amount received, $475 was in the form of forgiveness for a loan made to the group to purchase the troop bus. The bus loan has been paid. The remaining amount was presented to the troop by Joe Thompson, president of the Optimist Club, and will be used to buy tents, equipment, patrol boxes, and to provide scholarship support for the Scouts to enable them to participate in all troop activities.
Troop 311, which has more than 60 members, provides an outstanding program for the youth of the Jackson community.
In turn, the Scouts helped their charter organization this year by manning, with their parents, the Optimist's Christmas tree lot at the Jackson Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Boys, ages 11 to 17, interested in joining this active Boy Scout Troop, may contact the Scoutmaster Ron Gjerstad at 243-1499.
