Boy detained in Ripley County school bomb scare

DONIPHAN, Mo. -- A bomb threat at the Lone Star public school in Ripley County on Wednesday led to the detainment of a 13-year-old boy.

"About 9 a.m. I received a call from the superintendent [Ligie Waddell], who was in Jefferson City," said Ripley County Sheriff Ron Barnett. "He told me someone had written on the bathroom wall they were going to blow up the school."

Deputies called officers from the Doniphan Police Department to search the school, but nothing was found.

The sheriff's department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol examined surveillance from near the boys bathroom.

"The video revealed this young man was the only one who went in the bathroom," Barnett said.

The boy confessed he wrote the threat because he wanted to go home.

The case was turned over to juvenile officials.
