Two books to be discussed at the Cape Girardeau Public Library next month are "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains" by Isabella Bird and "All Over But the Shoutin'" by Rick Bragg.
Bird's book is part of the library's Morning Book Discussion program. Bragg's book was selected for United We Read II, Cape Girardeau's city-wide read for 2003.
Morning Book Discussion participants will meet for the first time in 2003 at 10 a.m. on Feb. 14, in the Hirsch Community Room of the library. "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains" was written in the form of letters the author actually wrote.
Bird was an adventuresome English spinster. This book describes her experiences as she traveled the American West in the fall and early winter of 1873.
Amy Jacquin of KFVS12 will lead the discussion of "All Over But the Shoutin'" at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18, in the Hirsch room.
Bragg is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist whose memoir tells of growing up poor in Alabama and overcoming obstacles to become a successful reporter.
This discussion is free and open to the public with no registration required.
For more information on these book discussions, call the library at 334-5279 or stop by at 711 North Clark.
The Cape Girardeau Public Library will be closed Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
