Gov. Mel Carnahan has appointed Howard L. Wood of Bonne Terre to the Missouri Conservation Commission.

"Howard is an avid outdoorsman who is committed to wildlife conservation," Carnahan said. "He has been a member of the Conservation Federation of Missouri for 20 years, and he served as its president in 1984-85."

Wood, 58, is vice chairman and co-founder of Charter Communications Inc. Charter is a St. Louis-based company that is among the largest operators of cable television properties in the United States.

Wood is a graduate of the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University. He received the Olin Distinguished Business Alumni Award in 1992. He also served on the St. Louis Sports Committee and was co-chair of the Olympic Festival Organizing Committee.
